The most interesting colour in Burberry’s Winter Gold palette is the one that interrupts all the warmth. Alongside champagne rose, bronze and deep brown sits an icy silver, giving this small holiday compact a cooler direction to explore. It is an appealing detail if your makeup drawer already contains plenty of bronze but you still want something that feels a little more dressed for evening.

These are the shades described in Burberry Beauty’s official festive announcement, rather than colours we have swatched. The four-pan Eye Quad in No.10 Winter Gold is joined by Outdoor Blush in No.62 Winter Rose, a coral rose with a peach note. Both come in gold-coloured check packaging, with the familiar pattern repeated in the powders. There is considerable pleasure in that matching detail, although the colour inside still needs to earn its place once the lid is open.

For UK shoppers, the useful news is that both are already listed on Burberry’s own website: £50 for the quad and £40 for the blush when we checked on 25 October. Each page offered an Add to Bag button. The 4 November date in the brand’s Japanese announcement belongs to that market; it should not be read as a future UK launch date.

What the compact gives you

Burberry describes the eye palette as a combination of satin and shimmer finishes and says the colours can be used wet or dry. The brand also claims eight-hour wear and resistance to humidity, sweat and heat. Those are manufacturer claims, not the results of a TBQ wear test. We have not assessed creasing, fallout or how the powders look on different skin tones.

On colour alone, the attraction is the choice of temperature. You could keep an eye look within the warmer shades or bring in the silver for a cooler flash. That is a styling possibility suggested by the palette, not a promise about how strongly the silver will show on your lids. Anyone buying chiefly for that shade would be sensible to try it at a counter rather than judge the finish from the embossed pan.

Winter Rose takes a softer role. Burberry calls its finish luminous matte, so the intended effect is a coloured cheek with some radiance rather than a separate metallic highlighter. The blush has its own brush; the eye palette includes a double-ended applicator. There is also a useful packaging detail: Burberry says the inner grids can be removed after the products are finished, leaving mirror compacts. That describes a second use for the cases, not confirmation that replacement colour refills are available.

Together, the two pieces cost £90. Buying both makes the colour story neatly coordinated, but matching cases are not a reason to replace a blush you already like. The quad is the more interesting prospect for someone looking to vary an existing neutral eye wardrobe; the blush deserves consideration on its own colour and finish.

This is holiday makeup with enough decoration to feel like a present, and a small enough colour edit to understand at a glance. The silver is the detail we would look at first. The rest of the decision should happen on skin.
